1: Welcome!
1.1 mfTuneKit Overview
- mfTuneKit is a free System Tuning / Maintenance application for Mac OS X Snow Leopard, written using Mac OS X Snow Leopard’s Cocoa API. It supports English and Chinese Simplified UI Language.
- mfTuneKit mainly focuses on Mac OS X Snow Leopard Tuning and Maintenance. It provides a simple and security way for Mac OS X Snow Leopard Users to tune and maintain their System. It always provides some utilities and options for system tuneup and customize.
- mfTuneKit developed based on end-user requirements. All of its features derived from many frequently asked and answered questions from Apple or Mac User forum. Many new features will appear in mfTuneKit in future.

- Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.0 or higher
- Intel x86 arch. based Mac computers
- 2.7MB of disk space
2: Getting Started
2.1 mfTuneKit Download, Install and Update
Download: Please click the link below to download the latest version of mfTuneKit
Install: Double clicks the downloaded file to Unzip and drag the mfTuneKit.app to anywhere you like to complete the installation
Update:
- Visit http://mac.brothersoft.com/mftunekit.html to looking for the latest news and release of mfTuneKit
- Visit http://ibuick.com/products/mftunekit to looking for the lastest news and release of mfTuneKit]
- Use software updates menu to find latest release

2.2 mfTuneKit Uninstall
In order to uninstall mfTuneKit completely, please find and remove files below:
- remove mfTuneKit.app
- remove /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.ibuick.mtk.noatime.plist (this file is required for turnoff HFS+ file access recording, if you still need this after uninstallaltion, please DO NOT remove it)
- remove /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.ibuick.mfTuneKit
- remove /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.ibuick.mfTuneKit.plist
- remove /var/run/com.ibuick.mfTuneKit.socket
- remove all items in /etc/authorization seem like <key>com.buick.mtk.MoveSwapFile</key> or <key>com.ibuick.mtk.MoveSwapFile</key>
3: Functions
3.1 Hardware Info Tab

Hardware Info Tab displays hardware status and information
- Model Identifier
- Processor Name
- 64bit Compatible, Cores and Threads(max threads that one core can execute concurrently)
- L2 Cache Size
- L3 Cache Size
- RAM
- Serial Number (one of Hardware Unique ID), click “
” button to get warranty information of your Mac, 
- If you have Growl Message Framework installed on your system, you will get Growl Notification, it will bring you to Apple Warranty Check site if you give it a click

- Machine UUID, another one of Hardware Unique ID
- Boot Time
- Sudden Motion Sensor: New MacBook and MacBook Pro use this sensor to monitor sudden motion of your Mac. If the motion exceed the threshold, the sensor will stop the Hard Disk. But if you have SSD (Solid State Disk) in your Mac, you can safely close it. Or, if you replaced the stock HDD with a new one, and the system always encountered a intermittently spin beach ball of Death (and might be with a noise from HDD), then you can turn off SMS to check whether the new HDD was incompatible with built-in SMS.
- At the bottom, is a live status of RAM usage
- Press “Reload Hardware Info” to reload the Hardware Info manually
3.2 Software Info Tab

System Info Tab displays software / Mac OS X information
- System Version
- Kernel Version, version of Darwin kernel
- 64bit Kernel Enabled, if it displays “YES”, that means your Mac OS X Snow Leopard is running under K64 mode. If it displays “NO”, that means your Mac OS X Snow Leopard is running under 32bit mode. Give “
” a click to try to switch from 32bit to 64bit(K64) or vice versa. This function needs reboot. 
- Click “Restore to Default” will remove all the boot arguments (Kernel Boot Flags)
- Press “Reload Software Info” to reload the Software Info manually
3.3 Power Management Info Tab

Power Management Info Tab displays power management relative information
- A/C Charger Info, click “
” to get detail info of a/c charger - Battery Installed, click “
” to get detail info of battery - Hibernation Mode, there are three built-in hibernate modes in Mac OS X Snow Leopard,
- Memory Sleep Mode, this is the default hibernate mode for desktop Macs. If power is unplugged during memory sleep, all unsaved status will lose.
- Mixed Sleep Mode, this is the default hibernate mode for notebook Macs. There is a copy of Memory Status on your Hard disk called sleepimage. When your Mac runs out of battery during sleep, the status always stay in disk and you can also recover your Mac by press Power button.
- Disk Sleep Mode, this is the most energy saving mode. Mac will write all status to disk at once and power off immediately. You also need to press Power button to call it back.
- Mixed Sleep Mode and Disk Sleep Mode will generate a sleepimage file which has the same size with your physical memory (RAM). This image is at /var/vm/sleepimage
- Deep Sleep Now, this will put your Mac to Disk Sleep immediately without changing your current Hibernation Mode policy.
3.4 Open Files Tab

Open Files tab loads and displays all open files in the table view
- Load Open Files, loads and displays all open files in the table view
- Show in Finder, get selected item in table view and show it in Finder
- Kill, kill the process which open the selected item in table view, waring: if that process opens many files together, you may lose any unsaved changes when you use kill
- All drop down list, you can select Volumes to filter results in table view
- Search, you can type some key words in it to filter results in table view
3.5 Toolkit Tab

Toolkit Tab provides many use utilities for system customize and tuning
- Create RAM Disk, use some RAM to simulate the Hard disk to get ultra performance for temporary files storage.
- CPU Cores, you can enable specific number of CPU Cores from this tool. You also can click “Resotre to default” button to restore.
- Warranty Status with Serial Number, you can check other Apple Devices’ Warranty Status
- Disable HFS+ access recording, Mac OS X Extend (Journaled) file system (HFS+) has a feature that can recored every file access time. This is useless for most end-users. Disable this feature on HFS+ will boost your system and hard disk (specially SSD) performance. The mfTuneKit always detects your current setting, if you want to enable this feature again, just click this button, it may called “Enable HFS+ access recording (default)”.
- Bottom Left, Change Mac OS X Boot Logo and Background Color
- find a image with 128*128 72dpi and drag it into image view box, and then click “Apply”
- click Color Panel at bottom left can change the Background Color
- click “Current Image” an get current image and bg Color
- click “Default Image” will restore both boot Logo and bg Color to default.
- Bottom Right, Change Mac OS X Login Window Background Image
- find a image and drag it into image view box, and then click “Apply”
- click “Current Image” an get current image
- click “Default Image” will restore Login Window Background Image to defult
3.6 Maintenance Tab

Maintenance Tab provides some Interface that user can modify and execute system maintenance operations
- daily script
- weekly script
- monthly script
- Click “Run them all” can run above three scripts altogether. Click “Load Default Setting” will load default time schedule configuration of these scripts. Modify them and press save.
- Virtual Memory (Swap) file, this will be used to modify default file path of swap file. If you have more than one hard disks in your Mac, move this file out of System running Volume will get a performance boost. Click “Load Current Path” , and then Click “Set New path”,choose a new path from file chooser. You can also click “Restore Path” to recover setting. This needs reboot.
- Remove Duplicated Open with Items will remove duplicated items appear in Open With… Context Menu
- Click “Restart Now” will bring your Mac to reboot.
